Organizational Buy In: The Unexpectedly Difficult Part About Testing
Tatiana Walton, Software Engineer at Streamlabs by Logitech
While testing is a critical part of a stable development process, it often goes neglected–even at scale! There are many misconceptions about testing, and obtaining buy-in from upper management and your engineering team can be an uphill battle. Making your team invested and excited about implementing a robust testing strategy is an art form that will determine the health of your codebase and the happiness of your engineers moving forward.

Reliability Testing For Meta-Frameworks
Lennart Jörgens, Senior Software Engineer at Netlify
Ever wondered how meta-frameworks test that their software is reliable against OS and browser differences, ad blockers, slow network speeds or other disturbances? That configuration options and core functionalities work in all cases, end-to-end on all platforms? That’s what the makers of Gatsby, one of the largest React meta-frameworks, did to ensure resilience and reliability. In this talk you’ll learn from their experiences and discover some techniques you can also adopt in your own web projects.

12:30 pm
The Pyramid is Dead, Long Live the Pyramid
Ramona Schwering, Software Engineer at shopware AG, Cypress Ambassador
When you think about test automation concepts, the test pyramid is probably one of the first metaphors you’ll stumble across. It advises you on how many tests you should consider at each level. However, voices are getting louder, that the pyramid is out of date. Let’s pick a testing strategy, decide what to automate, and what to leave to humans.

A Plea For Boring Tech
Jason Lengstrof, Host of Learn with Jason
As developers, we often get to combine the thing we do for work with a thing we do for fun. This is what all those embroidered pillows and motivational posters told us is the best possible outcome, and we should celebrate that! But doing a job that’s also a thing we do for play isn’t free of risks. If we treat our jobs as a hobby, we risk doing things because they’re fun for us and not because they’re good for our company or team. It’s great to be excited about tech and to want to play with exciting tech in our free time — but the tech we choose at work should be boring.
